Selection of Pouring Position for Pump Gland Steel Castings

Considering the structural characteristics of the product such as difficulty in molding ribs and small weight of steel castings, as well as the advantages and characteristics of 3D printing sand molding technology without considering mold production and flexible parting, a process plan for vertical pouring of multiple parts in one mold and steel castings was selected, as shown in the figure, which is the pouring position of the pump gland product. The selection of this pouring position has the following advantages:

(1) During vertical pouring of steel castings, the sectional area of the rising liquid level of the molten metal is small, and the temperature difference on the contour surface is small, making it difficult to produce defects such as cold shuts and air holes.

(2) The vertical placement of steel castings is conducive to the setting of feeding risers and the overall feeding of steel castings, as well as to subsequent cleaning.

(3) Using multiple parts in one type can increase the pouring weight of a single box, reduce the number of pouring boxes, ensure controllable pouring temperature, ensure the quality of steel castings, and improve production efficiency.
