Application status of casting numerical simulation

In recent years, with the rapid development of computer science and technology, many different types of casting solidification simulation software have been developed at home and abroad, which has attracted extensive attention of foundry workers.

In 1989, MAGMAsoft, the world’s first commercial foundry CAE software, was exhibited at the 7th International Foundry Expo in Germany. It takes temperature field analysis as the core content and runs on the workstation. Subsequently, many excellent casting process numerical simulation software emerged, such as ProCAST in the United States, novacast in Sweden, cast CAE in Finland, Forcast in Spain and so on.

At present, the casting numerical simulation technology has entered the engineering practical stage. Because it can ensure the casting quality, optimize the process scheme and shorten the trial production cycle, so as to reduce the production cost, it has gradually attracted the attention of workers in the casting industry. In recent five years, the economic benefits of American factories have increased exponentially due to the adoption of casting CAE technology, In Finland, more than 90% of foundries use casting simulation software to assist casting process design.
