Eliminating shrinkage cavity and porosity defects of steel castings

The traditional steel casting process design is analyzed through examples, and the shortcomings of the traditional process design are analyzed through the actual defects. Then the improvement measures are put forward for the examples, and the application verification is carried out. The improved steel casting process design method is summarized and applied to other engineering examples for verification. While improving the process, the key processes in the production process are analyzed, and effective control measures are put forward to avoid the occurrence of shrinkage defects. The main research contents are as follows:

  1. This paper introduces the role of casting in the national economy, introduces the urgent needs of casting enterprises to reduce product defects, reduce production costs and improve the competitiveness of enterprises, and points out the problems encountered by casting technicians in designing casting process. At the same time, the current situation of casting technology at home and abroad is also introduced.
  2. Theory of shrinkage cavity and porosity defect and process design of traditional steel castings. Taking a smart frame product as an example, combined with the filling capacity of liquid metal, the solidification mode of steel castings and the shrinkage of prayer pieces, the casting process design was carried out by using the traditional process design method of prayer steel pieces.
  3. Improvement of shrinkage cavity and porosity defects and process design method of example products. During the trial production of detonation production, there are shrinkage defects. Through the anatomy and analysis of the defects, the shortcomings of the traditional process design method of steel castings are inferred, and the improvement measures are put forward, and then verified by production application. According to the successful experience of trial production, the improved process design method of steel castings is summarized.
  4. Verification of improved process design method of steel castings. The correctness and effectiveness of the improved process design method for steel castings are verified by listing three examples of product defect improvement.
  5. Production process control. The measures to prevent shrinkage and porosity defects in production process control are analyzed.
