Coarse microstructure and low mechanical properties of lost foam casting

At present, the following methods are usually used to solve the problems of coarse structure and low mechanical properties in lost foam casting iron castings:

  1. inoculation treatment: inoculant is added in the lost foam casting process of cast iron to refine the structure of cast iron alloy and improve the mechanical properties of iron castings through inoculation treatment;
  2. using physical refinement techniques such as vibration, and applying auxiliary physical fields such as vibration during metal solidification to refine the primary structure in the casting;
  3. increase the cooling rate of molding materials, and refine the casting structure through the surface chilling effect of chilling sand and chilling coating on the solidification of metal solution.

The existing research results show that vibration in the lost foam casting process of magnesium and aluminum alloys can refine the alloy structure and improve its properties. Therefore, using the existing shaking table of lost foam casting to apply vibration in the process of lost foam casting of cast iron alloy is expected to solve the problems of coarse structure and low mechanical properties of lost foam casting cast iron alloy.
