The steel castings produced by vertical casting scheme are shown in Fig. 1. The appearance quality of the castings is better, especially there are no visible inclusion defects on the large plane and corners of the casting.
The castings produced by vertical casting scheme were machined. Through visual inspection and ultrasonic flaw detection, no defects affecting product quality such as slag inclusion and crack were found in the castings after processing, as shown in Fig. 2.
