Selection and application of casting coating on gray cast iron cylinder

The casting coating is composed of five basic components: refractory aggregate, carrier, binder, suspending agent and additives. With the development of technology, the casting coating has expanded from single sand prevention to multiple functions such as anti veining, sintering, porosity, leakage and sand hole, so as to meet the customer’s demand for the internal and external surface quality of castings.

With the development of engine cylinder body to lightweight, thin-walled, accurate and tough, higher requirements are put forward for the high-temperature performance of water jacket and oil passage sand core. The high-temperature performance of sand core must be improved by coating with excellent performance and on-site correct control. How to choose the coating suitable for different casting process characteristics, and how to correctly use and control in the production process, is of great significance to improve the stability of product quality.

The selection of coatings should be based on the quality requirements of different castings and sand cores, and the special coatings suitable for the characteristics of castings or sand cores should be selected, so as to make the performance of coatings and the quality of castings complement each other, so as to not only avoid excessive excellent performance of coatings, resulting in waste of cost, but also meet the quality requirements of castings. The supplier should do a good job in static control, the whole process from raw materials to preparation should be controlled, and the user should do a good job in dynamic control on site. Only the organic combination of the two can meet the quality requirements of high-quality thin-walled cylinder castings.
