Development of Squeeze Casting Technology

Squeeze casting technology came out in the former Soviet Union in 1937. In the early stage, it mainly focused on the research of copper alloy squeeze casting technology. In 1964, B.M. pulitzki of the former Soviet Union published his monograph liquid metal die forging, which marked the complete establishment of squeeze casting technology. Since 1958, China has started the research on squeeze casting forming technology, carried out the research on squeeze casting forming of various materials and the experimental comparative research on various process methods, and gradually established a theoretical system of physical and chemical process, mechanical process, solidification process and its influence law of squeeze casting forming.

Squeeze casting process can effectively eliminate the common defects such as shrinkage cavity, shrinkage porosity and porosity. The properties of the alloy have been effectively developed, and the product quality has been greatly improved. Fei Liangjun and others used indirect squeeze casting process to manufacture aluminum alloy shell parts, which eliminated the porosity defects in pressure casting, and obtained the parts with good performance and no porosity and other casting defects. Zhao Yuhua et al. Studied the squeeze casting of 2A70 alloy. The results show that the microstructure of the squeeze casting parts is compact, the mechanical properties are close to or reach the 2A70 wrought aluminum alloy, and the shrinkage porosity and cavity phenomenon in gravity casting is eliminated. The results show that the microstructure and mechanical properties of ZL201 thin-walled cylindrical parts are much better than those of sand casting. The microstructure and mechanical properties of ZA27 alloy were significantly improved compared with gravity casting. The microstructure was refined, and the plasticity and strength were significantly improved. The results show that the squeeze casting process improves the microstructure and characteristic structure of the alloy, and the mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, hardness and fatigue strength of the alloy are significantly improved at low temperature.

Liquid extrusion technology is a new metal forming technology which combines the dual characteristics of squeeze casting and solid extrusion. Hong ShenZhang used this process to study the liquid extrusion process and die for the handle of aluminum alloy pipe tongs. The results show that it can replace the hot die forging production, and the material utilization rate is significantly improved. No matter vacuum squeeze casting technology, liquid squeeze casting technology, twin control of casting and forging, twin extrusion and other squeeze casting composite technology, all represent the new development direction of squeeze casting.
