Problems in traditional sand casting process for turbine shell parts

1. The traditional sand casting method has low precision and cannot meet the production of complex parts such as turbine shell

Turbine shell parts are often used in the assembly of precision equipment such as engines and superchargers, and have high precision requirements on the inlet and outlet ports, shell ends and assembly surfaces of parts. The inner and outer contours of the turbine shell are mostly complex curved surfaces. The three-axis or multi axis machine tools can not meet the processing requirements. Therefore, the die-free casting and rapid prototyping technology should be adopted for casting. This technology can quickly and reasonably design the mold of the turbine shell according to the structure of the parts with the help of computer software to meet the use and accuracy requirements of the turbine shell parts.

2. The traditional sand casting method has low efficiency and long production cycle, which can not meet the requirements of the market

Using the traditional sand casting method requires processing the pattern first, and the cycle of processing the pattern with the help of ordinary or numerical control technology is long, and the manufacturing cycle of large and complex castings is as long as several months. The competition in the market is becoming more and more fierce, which puts forward personalized and short-term requirements for enterprises. Therefore, the traditional sand casting method can not adapt to the development of the market and technology.

3. The cost of traditional sand casting method is high, which is not conducive to the research and development of single piece and small batch new products

Taking the turbine shell part as an example, the traditional sand casting method requires sand casting and pattern manufacturing, and the precision of the complex surface of the part can not meet the requirements. With the increasing demand of the market for short delivery time, high precision and low cost, there are many kinds of new casting products in various automobile enterprises. The traditional sand casting method is not suitable for the research and development of new products in enterprises.
