Sand casting process, advantages and disadvantages

Basic process of sand casting process

a. Sand casting process includes manufacturing model and core, sand mixing, molding and core making,

sand casting process

b. Process design:

Determine the casting process plan

First consideration: selection of casting position and parting surface

Also note: machining allowance, die inclination, casting shrinkage, riser position and size, etc

Advantages and disadvantages of sand casting

(1) Advantages

a. The cooling speed of metal mold is faster, the structure of casting is denser, it can be strengthened by heat treatment, and the mechanical properties are better.

b. The quality of metal mold casting is stable, the surface roughness is better than sand mold casting, and the rejection rate is low.

c. Good working conditions, high productivity, easy for workers to master.

(2) shortcomings

a. Metal mold has large thermal conductivity and poor filling ability.

b. The metal shape itself has no air permeability. Corresponding measures must be taken to effectively exhaust gas.

c. The metal mold is non – yielding and easy to crack and deform during solidification.
