Application of lost foam casting technology in the production of excavator bucket teeth

Bucket teeth are the main vulnerable parts of the open pit excavator. The casting has a unit weight of 130kg, the material is ZGMn13 and the outline size is 944mm × 300mm × 150mm (see Figure). The traditional sand casting process is usually used to produce bucket teeth castings of excavators. Due to many sand cores and complex processes, it is labor-consuming and time-consuming, and requires high technical operation level of workers. Even so, it is difficult to clean the flash and burr of bucket teeth of excavators, and the scrap rate is very high.

Lost foam casting has many advantages in technology and economy: ① without core, core making process and related equipment can be omitted; ② There is neither parting surface nor core clearance, so there are no cracks and burrs on the bucket tooth casting of excavator; ③ It can reduce or even cancel the mold starting inclination, and can improve the dimensional accuracy of bucket tooth castings of excavator without considering the process parameters such as negative parting number and negative sand core number; ④ The foam mold is easy to bond and assemble; ⑤ Good working environment; ⑥ Low production cost.

Therefore, we choose lost foam casting process to produce excavator bucket teeth and achieve good results.

The bucket teeth of excavator produced by lost foam casting not only have smooth surface, high dimensional accuracy, high yield and low cost, but also can reduce the labor intensity of workers and free workers from heavy physical labor. Therefore, lost foam casting is the best process for producing bucket teeth of excavator.
