Further Reading Cast Iron Parts

As cast iron parts have advantages of low cost, excellent manufacturability and reproducibility, their applications can be seen in many ways till now. These involved ones include desulphurization and filtrations of melted iron, manufacturing of thin and high-intensity iron castings and Fe composites, metal case hardenings and partly hardenings, a whole set of technique for austempered ductile iron, other special techniques and equipments involving metal mold casting, iron based coated sand casting, continuous casting and etc.. In addition, because light alloys, made from cast iron parts, have low density, high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance features, they’re believed to be widely applied in aviation, aerospace, automobile, machinery or more. Especially as for auto industry, for the purpose of reducing fuel consumption and improving energy efficiency, aluminum-nickel alloy castings will be replaced for iron and steel castings. Thus, it’s certain to be a long-term tendency in future.

As cast iron parts have features of light weight, good appearance and excellent corrosion resistance, they can meet certain mechanical properties. However, compared with iron castings, melting quality of cast iron parts is problematic and hard to control operation procedures. Aluminium casting welding has advantages of high production efficiency and simple equipment requirement. It’s of great significance to increasing machine utilization and improving economic performance. Therefore, it’s widely applied in repairing engineering machinery. Cast iron parts are a kind of aluminum alloys, added into pure aluminum with alloying elements, which are not only all the good performances from pure aluminum, but also higher strength. Though, it’s very hard to restore cast iron parts.
