According to statistics, the total production of castings in China is about 40 million tons, accounting for about two fifths of the global production of castings.Sand casting, including clay sand, resin sand and water glass sand, is the main method of casting production, accounting for about 80% of the total production of casting, while clay sand casting accounts for about 80% of the total production of sand casting, accounting for about 70% of the total production of casting.Clay sand casting is widely used to produce various castings, especially automobile castings which are produced in large quantities, such as cylinder head, crankshaft, brake drum and other key castings of automobile engine, are mostly produced by clay sand casting.
In the production of clay sand moulding, poor quality or improper use of moulding material is the main factor causing casting defects, which accounts for more than 50% of the total castings waste, and about 70% of the total production cost of castings is related to moulding material. Therefore, accurate determination of the composition of moulding sand and properties of clay sand is one of the key problems to guarantee the production quality of large-scale clay sand casting.
At present, clay sand casting plays a leading role in the production of automotive cast iron parts, and the main production mode is large-scale linear production.The quality stability of clay sand directly affects the production quality of casting, and it is of great significance to control the quality of clay sand for casting.
