The basic raw materials applied in sand foundry include casting model powder and molding sand binder, in which, the commonly-used casting model powder is siliceous sand. When the high temperature performance of certain siliceous sand can not meet related use requirements, certain special sands can be applied instead. Generally, molding sand binder will be added in casting process so that the finished sand molds and cores feature certain strength.
Sand foundry is a kind of casting process. One complete casting mould adopted in sand foundry is commonly composed of its outside sand mould and its core molding material. Wear-resistant parts applied in crushers, machined by sand foundry, are still very popular in the nationwide, like jaw plates, high-chromium board hammers and etc.. When it comes to bigger abrasive resistance castings among crushers, they are more fit for sand foundry as they demand low accuracy. Though, the abrasive resistance property of sand foundry performs better far more than the one of lost foam casting. The main reasons behind that lie in that sand foundry have advantages of low cost, simple production process and short production cycle, compared with other casting methods. Therefore, some like cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts and other castings within car engines are also made by sand foundry process. As the kind process has been widely applied in casting industry, it’s likely to be a significant role in casting field.
Above 80% of products in casting industry are made by sand foundry. So, the casting we generally said before refers to sand foundry actually.
